The Story Behind Keep it Local

As Newburyport small shop owners, creators of Keep it Local Sarah Landry and Katie Rocheford first came up with the idea in 2017. The duo own Salt + Grove, an artisan gift shop located in the heart of Newburyport. Devoted to spreading good vibes and bringing the community together, the idea first sparked as a way to get the Newburyport community shopping their local small shops on Small Business Saturday. What started with just 10 local shops and very little traction has now grown to 20 shops and comes with an incredible buzz each passing year.

On its seventh year in 2024, twenty of Newburyport’s top shops are participating in Keep it Local with giveaways and discounts that will blow their shoppers away. All with the hope that this campaign encourages shopping small on Small Business Saturday (and beyond!), shopkeepers are willing to go above and beyond on this day also a huge thank you to the community that keeps them going as a small business.
